I know a lot of you may feel a bit left in the dark as to what Cornell Barbell actually is and what we actually do. First I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Justin Steimle, the president of Cornell Barbell. I am a rising senior in the College of Engineering. I competed in my first bodybuilding competition in August for the OCB.
I would like to discuss an event we will be holding in early September. In the upcoming months, more details will be revealed as more preparations are made.
Cornell Barbell will be hosting a combine open to all fraternities, as well an a bench press competition open to the entire campus.
Events will include:
Fraternities:
40 yard dash
225lb bench press for reps (may be reduced to 185lb)
Vertical Jump
Broad Jump
20 Yard Shuttle
3 Cone Drill
And for the entire Cornell community: 1 rep maximum bench press (details later)
For fraternities, the competition will factor into the All Sports Points Championship. I have already spoken with the director of intramurals, and he is very enthusiastic about the idea.
Additionally, Cornell Barbell has gained corporate interest in sponsoring the event with free supplement samples for participants as well as apparel such as shirts.
Future events will include seminars open to the Cornell community and club trips to seminars and powerlifting and bodybuilding competitions.
I know this may be a bit vague right now and I'm sure there will be plenty of questions. Feel free to email cubarbell@gmail.com and I would be happy to answer them. Also, be sure to check out our facebook group as well.
Official club recruitment will begin in the fall semester, however the facebook group is open to all for now.
That's all for now. Keep working hard.
