Apply Now

Hi everyone,

All the officers have been hard at work getting Barbell Club recognized by the University. There have been some hiccups along the way, but everything seems to be going smoother. The officers will meet again tonight to discuss the future of the club, the upcoming event, and more.

For now, you can apply by filling out the application linked at the bottom of this post. Save it to your computer, edit it, then save the file as CBC_YourName.pdf

We will be looking into apparel orders in September. Look forward specifically to t-shirts and hoodies first.

CU Barbell's Big Bang

Hey everyone,

I know a lot of you may feel a bit left in the dark as to what Cornell Barbell actually is and what we actually do. First I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Justin Steimle, the president of Cornell Barbell. I am a rising senior in the College of Engineering. I competed in my first bodybuilding competition in August for the OCB.

I would like to discuss an event we will be holding in early September. In the upcoming months, more details will be revealed as more preparations are made.
Cornell Barbell will be hosting a combine open to all fraternities, as well an a bench press competition open to the entire campus.

Events will include:
Fraternities:
40 yard dash
225lb bench press for reps (may be reduced to 185lb)
Vertical Jump
Broad Jump
20 Yard Shuttle
3 Cone Drill

And for the entire Cornell community: 1 rep maximum bench press (details later)

For fraternities, the competition will factor into the All Sports Points Championship. I have already spoken with the director of intramurals, and he is very enthusiastic about the idea.

Additionally, Cornell Barbell has gained corporate interest in sponsoring the event with free supplement samples for participants as well as apparel such as shirts.

Future events will include seminars open to the Cornell community and club trips to seminars and powerlifting and bodybuilding competitions.

I know this may be a bit vague right now and I'm sure there will be plenty of questions. Feel free to email cubarbell@gmail.com and I would be happy to answer them. Also, be sure to check out our facebook group as well.
Official club recruitment will begin in the fall semester, however the facebook group is open to all for now.

That's all for now. Keep working hard.

First Post - An Era Begins

The time has come, the fog has lifted and the dawn of a new age is upon us...

Dramatics aside, now that Cornell Barbell is officially recognized by Cornell University we can finally start building our community.  It has taken longer than I would have liked(admittedly my error), but we have hit the ground running with a large, multi-faceted event already being planned for next semester.  This blog will remain a bit ambigous and sporadic at first: expect a medley of thoughts, comments, and information pertaining to an array of topics related to sports and nutrition.  More to come soon, in the meantime: Pump Iron - Jim
